O sepaktakraw foi trazido ao Brasil pelo arquiteto pernambucano, Hilário Nóbrega da Cunha "Charles Miller do sepaktakraw" que conheceu a modalidade em Bali no ano de 1989. Foram dez anos tentando introduzir a modalidade por aqui. Olinda/PE, sua cidade natal, tornou-se a capital brasileira do sepaktakraw, tem duas quadras públicas e é lá que treina a seleção brasileira, que já foi campeã da divisão de acesso do Mundial em 2000, na Malásia, e da divisão especial da Copa do Rei da Tailândia em 2000, 2003 e 2007, além de títulos na França, Guiana Francesa e Colômbia.
